Utah White Bread

Ingredients
  • 7 cups white flour
  • 1 yeast
  • 1/4 cup lukewarm water
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • 3 TBSP shortening
  • 1 TBSP salt

Steps
  1. Mix together water and yeast and let sit for about 5 minutes.
  2. Scald milk, shortening, and salt together and then let cool. Place in mixing bowl. Once cooled, add 4 cups flour. Beat well. Add yeast and add enough more flour to make a soft dough.
  3. Mix until the dough form in an elastic ball in the bowl.
  4. Cover and let rest 10-15 minutes. Knead 10-15 minutes. THen grease ball of dough
  5. Cover and let rise until tripled in bulk.
  6. Punch down, let rise 40 minutes, punch down again. Let rise 20 minute.
  7. Divide into balls for loaves. Cover and rest dough 10 minutes. Mold into loaves and pot into greased bread pans.
  8. Let rise until double in bulk.
  9. Bake 400° approximately 30 minutes or until golden brown. Turn out to cool and brush top with margarine.
