Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 1 cup sifted flour
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 egg white
- 1 1/2 cup nuts (chopped)
Steps
- Cream butter, then add sugar, yolk, and vanilla.
- Gradually add flour. Roll in 1" balls and dip into slightly beaten egg whites.
- Roll in nuts. Place 1" apart on ungreased baking sheet.
- Bake at 375° for 5 minutes. Remove from oven and gently press thumb into each cookie.
- Return to oven and bake 10 minutes or more.
- When ready to serve, fill center with red jelly or icing. Can be frozen - plain and filled at the last minute to serve.
- Makes about 2 1/2 dozen.
