Salt Water Taffy

1 1/4 lbs.
Ingredients
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup corn syrup
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 2 TBSP butter
  • 1/4 tsp oil of peppermint
  • 7 drops food coloring

Steps
  1. Combine sugar, syrup, and salt. Add water.
  2. Cook slowly, stirring constantly until sugar dissolves.
  3. Cook to hard ball stage (260°) without stirring. Remove from heat and stir in remaining ingredients.
  4. Pour into buttered pan. Cool until comfortable to handle.
  5. Butter hands and gather taffy into a ball.
  6. Pull candy until light in color and hard to pull. Cut into fourths and pull each strand about 1/2" thick.
  7. Snip with buttered scissors into bite size pieces.
  8. Wrap each piece in wax paper.
