Poppy Sticks

Ingredients
  • 1/2 pkg. yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 stick melted butter or margarine
  • 1 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 tsp water
  • poppy seeds
  • coarse salt

Steps
  1. Dissolve yeast in warm milk,. Add butter. MIx in flour.
  2. Cover bowl and let rise 30 minutes.
  3. Knead 2-3 minutes. Divide into 6 pieces.
  4. Roll into pencil shapes. Cut each piece into 5 pieces.
  5. Shape into 6" long sticks.
  6. Place on greased baking sheet.
  7. Let rise 15-20 minutes.
  8. Brush with mixture of egg white and 1 tsp water. Sprinkle with poppy seeds and salt.
  9. Bake 400° - 15 minutes.
  10. Leave oven door slightly open with wooden spoon handle.
