Ingredients
- 1 cup butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 lb. dates (chopped)
- 1 lb. orange gum drop candy (cut up)
- 1 cup coconut
- 1 cup nuts (chopped)
- Glaze:
- 1 cup orange juice
- 1 cup powdered sugar
Steps
- Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs. Beat until fluffy.
- Mix in 3 cups flour. Alternately with buttermilk which has soda dissolved in it.
- Use remaining 1/2 cup flour to dredge nuts, gum drops, dates, and coconut. Add to batter. Mix well.
- Pour into greased and floured 10" tube pan.
- Bake 275° for 2 hours. Top with glaze while still hot.
- Allow to stand in pan overnight.
- Glaze: combine ingredients and pour over hot cake.
