Orange Candy Cake

Ingredients
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 lb. dates (chopped)
  • 1 lb. orange gum drop candy (cut up)
  • 1 cup coconut
  • 1 cup nuts (chopped)

  • Glaze:
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Steps
  1. Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs. Beat until fluffy.
  2. Mix in 3 cups flour. Alternately with buttermilk which has soda dissolved in it.
  3. Use remaining 1/2 cup flour to dredge nuts, gum drops, dates, and coconut. Add to batter. Mix well.
  4. Pour into greased and floured 10" tube pan.
  5. Bake 275° for 2 hours. Top with glaze while still hot.
  6. Allow to stand in pan overnight.
  7. Glaze: combine ingredients and pour over hot cake.
