Mexican Sopapillas

Ingredients
  • 4 cups flour
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 tsp salt
  • water

Steps
  1. Stir dry ingredients into mixing bowl. Cut in shortening. Add just enough water to hold together as like pie crust.
  2. Roll out medium thin and cut into squares or triangles.
  3. Deep fat fry in hot oil until brown and puffy.
  4. Place on paper towel. Can make small hole on side and fill with butter, honey, jam, or chili.
Tips
Can also use regular bread dough. Known as scones or scoffins.
We usually serve with syrup for dipping.
