Horehound Candy

"Candy or Cough Drops"

Ingredients
  • 2 TBSP horehound
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup dark karo syrup
  • 1 TBSP butter

Steps
  1. Combine horehound and water. Simmer 5 minutes.
  2. Strain through cloth and squeeze. Combine remaining ingredients in 6 quart kettle.
  3. Add strained mixture. Cook stirring constantly over high heat.
  4. To test for doneness, drop a little into a cup of cold water. When it cracks and breaks, it's ready.
  5. Pour into an oiled pan and mark in one inch squares.
  6. Cool completely. Break apart.
