Golden Layer Cake

Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 cups sifted cake flour
  • 2 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup (8 TBSP) shortening
  • 1 tsp flavoring (vanilla/lemon)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 eggs

Steps
  1. Stir dry ingredients into mixing bowl. Cut in shortening. Add just enough water to hold together as like pie crust.
  2. Roll out medium thin and cut into squares or triangles.
  3. Deep fat fry in hot oil until brown and puffy.
  4. Place on paper towel. Can make small hole on side and fill with butter, honey, jam, or chili.

This is my favorite scratch cake.
