Ingredients
- 6 cups flour
- 2 tsp soda
- 2 cups shortening
- 2 TBSP water
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 cups white sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 4 eggs (beaten)
- 2 tsp vanilla
- Fillings:
- 3 cups raisins
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 3 cups dates
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 cup water
Steps
- Cream shortening, sugar, and eggs.
- Add water and vanilla.
- Add dry ingredeints. Roll to 1/4" thick. Spread on filling.
- Roll into long rolls. Chill. Slice.
- Bake 350° until lightly brown.
- Fillings:
- Raisins = Grind raisins and add sugar and a small amount of water. Cook for 5 minutes. Stir constantly. Cool and spread.
- Dates = Chop dates and add sugar and water. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring constantly. Cool. Spread on dough.
