Date Pecan Bars

Ingredients
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp soda
  • 2 tsp water
  • 1 (8 oz.) pkg dates - chopped
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp cloves
  • dash salt
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 cup pecans - chopped

Steps
  1. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time.
  2. Combine baking soda and water. Blend into mixture. Add dates.
  3. Sift together dry ingredients, add to creamed mixture. Add pecans.
  4. Chill overnight.
  5. Shape into rolls 10" long, 3/4" diameter.
  6. Place 2 rolls on each greased cookie sheet and press with gingers to flatten to 1/4" thick.
  7. Sprinkle with remaining sugar.
  8. Bake 355° for 15-18 minutes.
  9. While hot, cut diagnoal slices 1 1/2" apart to form bars.
