Date Pecan Bars

Ingredients
1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp soda
2 tsp water
1 (8 oz.) pkg dates - chopped
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp cloves
dash salt
2 tsp sugar
3 cups flour
1 cup pecans - chopped

Steps
Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time.
Combine baking soda and water. Blend into mixture. Add dates.
Sift together dry ingredients, add to creamed mixture. Add pecans.
Chill overnight.
Shape into rolls 10" long, 3/4" diameter.
Place 2 rolls on each greased cookie sheet and press with gingers to flatten to 1/4" thick.
Sprinkle with remaining sugar.
Bake 355° for 15-18 minutes.
While hot, cut diagnoal slices 1 1/2" apart to form bars.
