Dark Devil's Food Cake

Ingredients
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup cocoa
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 3 eggs

Steps
  1. Stir together all dry ingredients.
  2. Add shortening and water and beat for 2 minutes.
  3. Add vanilla and eggs. Beat 2 more minutes.
  4. Bake 350 for 35 to 45 minutes (use greased and floured oblong pan).
  5. Frost with chocolate icing or penuche icing.

This cake keeps extra well and is good for picnics
