Caramel Ice Cream

1 quart
Ingredients
2/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup boiling water
2 1/2 cup milk
1 egg
1/8 tsp salt
1 TBSP vanilla

Steps
Melt sugar slowly in heavy pan, stirring constantly. When sugar is melted and brown, add water.
Heat and stir vigorously until sugar is dissolved.
Add 1 cup milk and pour mixture into egg and salt.
Cook slowly 5 minute, stirring frequently.
Cool. Stir remaining milk and vanilla.
Pour into freezer can and freeze, using 8 parts ice to 1 part salt.
Tips
For burnt almond - add 1 cup blanched almonds (chopped and toasted)
