Applesauce Cake

Ingredients
2 cups sifted all purpose flour
2 eggs
2 TBSP cocoa
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 1/2 cups applesauce
1/2 tsp allspice
1/2 tsp soda
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 cup raisins
1 cup snipped dates or walnuts (optional)

Steps
Sift together dry ingredients. Coat fruit or nuts with flour.
In large mix master bowl, cream shortening on #7 speed - 2 minutes.
Then, add eggs 1 at a time while beating 2 minutes.
Add flour mixture alternately with applesauce while beating on #2 speed.
Scrape bowl as necessary. Beat only until blended - about 4 minutes.
Turn into greased and flour dusted 13x9x2" pan.
Bake 350° for 30 to 50 minutes or until done.
Cool. Frost with your favorite frosting.
